Infant’s parents residing in Singapore prefer operating their son in Abu Dhabi,Successful surgery for a male infant with feminine organs in Abu Dhabi:

Doctors in Al Noor Hospital- Airport Road succeeded in a surgery for an infant suffering from very rare global condition with the existence of the uterus and fallopian tubes in a male infant.
Doctors who diagnosed the condition in one of the specialized hospitals in Singapore advised the parents, who are residing in Singapore, to search for a pediatric surgeon who specializes in these rare cases. Searching the internet by Singaporean doctor and the infants’ parents showed that there are limited treated cases worldwide, mainly by an American pediatric surgeon in Mayo Clinic and Dr. Amin El Gohary, Consultant and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Al Noor Hospital in Abu Dhabi who has previously operated 6 similar cases. The infant's parents took their decision to come to Abu Dhabi to treat their son after extensive coordination and communication with Dr. El Gohary.
Dr. Kassem Alom, the CEO of Al Noor Hospitals’ Group in Abu Dhabi stated that the significant development of the hospitals in the capital Abu Dhabi and the UAE in general has attracted many rare pathological cases that prefer to receive treatment at the hospitals in Abu Dhabi, adding that the presence of excellent surgeon who retain supreme medical competencies with broad experience are universally renowned, some of whom have succeeded in registering many therapeutic and surgical methods in their name in medical journals and textbooks.
Dr. Alom noted that, private hospitals are working alongside governmental hospitals to develop and improve the level of health services in Abu Dhabi and Emirate in general, which has reached a very advanced stage compared to medical centers operating in many other developed countries. Adding that, many procedures including delicate surgeries take place very successfully in Abu Dhabi and Emirate hospitals.

Dr. Amin El Gohary who was consultant and Chief of Pediatric Surgery at the Mafraq hospital previously, said that the infant’s parents have contacted him few weeks ago informing him about the condition of their son. They sent his medical reports and express their willingness to treat their son in Abu Dhabi after having ascertained that the Dr. Gohary has vast experience in treating these cases according to world medical records and references
Dr. Gohary mentioned that the initial medical reports issued by the hospital in Singapore indicated that the condition is for a female baby who has a uterus which has Fallopian tubes and part of the vagina and two ovaries but the doctor in Singapore took two samples of the ovaries and the histology results showed that the ovaries were actually testicles..
He said the infant had been subjected to a laparoscopic surgical process in Singapore to treat a hernia on the right side and a testicle that is inside the abdomen, during the operation the surgeon noticed that the baby fallopian tubes, a uterus and part of the vagina. The treating Singaporean surgeon noted that for the first time in his career he operates on a boy with internal female organs. The parents of the infant finally decided to come to Abu Dhabi to meet with Dr. Amin El Gohary for conducting the surgery.
Dr. El Gohary explained that the patient services arranged with the parents their intended trip through providing the names of hotels near the hospital and all the tests were conducted upon the arrival of the infant. The operation lasted two and a half hours during which the infant’s testicles where lowered to the scrotum through a delicate endoscopic maneuver. The fallopian tubes and a part of the uterus were eradicated because the testes nutritious blood vessels and sperm canals passes through the uterine tissue, according to tests carried out for the infant.
He said the infant's health is good and he is expected to leave hospital in the coming few days to return to Singapore with his parents, where his father worked. He is planned to come back in one year time for follow-up and for a second operation to eradicate the remaining part of the uterus.
Dr. El Gohary said that such cases were very rare at the global level, adding that his first case of this condition was operated in the mid-1990s and was published in the medical journals together with his experience in dealing with these cases, which included 3 cases until 2000. He mentioned that he have successfully conducted another 3 cases which will be published soon in the world medical records in addition to the condition of the Singaporean infant.
The Parents, who requested not to publish their names and the name of the infant, expressed their extreme happiness for the successful operation. The mother said that the excellent level of services at the hospital is comparable to the services available in the best hospitals.
She had read in the medical reviews on such cases globally that Mayo Clinic has operated one single case of this type while Dr. El Gohary recorded treating 3 cases of such condition.
The infant’s father, who works as a computer engineer and networks, said that he is glad to come to Abu Dhabi to treat his son, emphasizing that he made the decision to after a long search on the Internet and world medical reviews which resulted in the selection of Dr. El Gohary to cure his son.
The parents thanked the hospital management at the level of services provided and the amount of care before and after the surgery and during their stay in Abu Dhabi.
