established with a goal to assist severe obese patients to find a
lasting solution to their weight loss challenges and associated health
problems. Headed by Prof. Abdulslam Al Taie, FRCS, Senior Consultant
Surgeon who is well known in the field of Laparoscopy since 1990 when
Laparoscopic commenced in the world, this unit deals with minimal
invasive (keyhole) procedures where all ranges of surgeries performed
through the operative laparoscopy.
Being a renowned consultant surgeon, Prof. Al Taie performs all types of
obesity surgeries using the high tech laparoscopy techniques that is
Gastric Banding as well as Gastric Bypass for super-obesity when the BMI
exceeds 50 kg/m. The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, which is endorsed by the
National Institutes of Health, is performed as one of the most effective
operations for morbid obesity.
Roux-en-y gastric bypass Effective Surgical Solution The surgery entails
stapling the upper portion of the stomach to create a small pouch, about
the size of a thumb, reducing the stomachs capacity from roughly 50
ounces to just 1 - 2 ounces. That pouch is then directly connected to
the small intestine to continue the digestion pathway. The results of
the gastric bypass surgery are quite dramatic. Patients can lose up to
100 pounds in the first year. More importantly, they can maintain this
weight loss. Since 2002, more than 200 patients have undergone Gastric
Bandings and 22 Gastric Bypasses with successful results through our
Program.
