Al Noor Hospital Walk-A-Thone at the
Abu Dhabi Corniche in breast cancer prevention campaign |

Under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and
Industry and support of the Family Development Foundation and
the Red Crescent organization, Al Noor Hospital Group organized
a Walk-A-Thone on Abu Dhabi Corniche at 27 October 2011 Thursday
at 4 p.m. under the slogan "Walk For Hope". The event is a part
of the global awareness campaigns to prevent breast cancer that
is launched annually at the beginning of October and continue
throughout the month.
The Walking Marathon started at the end of the public swimming
beach at the Western Plaza on the Corniche for one kilometer to
the East Plaza and then back to the starting point. There was
several entertainment events on the sidelines of the
Walk-A-Thone to the family as a whole. In addition, a raffle was
also organized with valuable prizes including flight tickets.
Awareness leaflets and information about breast cancer and the
importance of early detection of breast cancer in the early
stages has been distributed to the public through special kiosks.
Dr. Kassem Alom, the CEO of Al Noor Hospitals Group in Abu Dhabi
said that the Group was keen on effective coordination with
various sectors to allow community members to interact with the
awareness campaign, and publicize the seriousness of the late
discovery of the breast cancer. The Walk-A-Thone contributes to
raising awareness among members of society to reduce the spread
of the disease along with hope for cure in the hearts of women
who are already diagnosed with it.
He stressed that all the donations will be all go to the Emirati
Red Crescent which is involved in the campaign for the early
detection of breast cancer through its mobile units. Dr. Alom
asserted that Noor Group hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of
Abu Dhabi has actively participated in the campaign through
offering the women periodic check up and breast screening using
mammogram and organizing lectures to explain the
self-examination methods; in addition to the distribution of
leaflets to promote disease awareness and prevention methods.
The Marathon will be organized annually at the Abu Dhabi
Corniche during October every year to raise awareness of the
disease and prevention. Dr. Alom also praised the cooperation
from various sectors for
participation to all the residents of Abu Dhabi, whether
nationals or expatriates. |
